The network's Premier Fresh Series of This Year Earns a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network launched a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often marked by bleakness, this show's sincerity struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about observing this charming family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing layer of irony. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

The Path Forward

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to experience the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
