🔗 Share this article The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror That Blends Survival Horror and Social Deduction Mechanics The latest Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several intriguing upcoming titles, but one especially has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us. "It's a unique experience where a young woman containing several human souls within her needs to flee from a maze of the mind," explains developer Yasukazu Kawai. Entering a Shattered Mind In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Inside her exist four separate personas, all possessing their own fears and motivations. These souls can seize control spontaneously, releasing their innermost phobias upon her suddenly. Judging by revealed gameplay, much of the narrative takes place within a eerie medical facility, though additional clips depict the protagonist navigating a desolate chapel. An Environment of Individual Horror "What makes you fearful of? What makes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that appear minor to other people can trigger something primal within us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are specific to every individual." The core gameplay loop involves managing whichever soul surfaces at any given time. However, these souls will switch involuntarily during gameplay. While exploring, every persona's fears become exaggerated and assault the protagonist one after another. As the persona changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences. Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision At first glance, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill series. The setting is filled with nurses who all share the identical visage, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the lobby have enormous flowers where their heads are. Flowers are an ever-present theme, juxtaposing organic elegance with unnatural horror. Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities inhabiting the heroine is the "true" one. "Each of the souls claims that the physical form belongs to them," notes a creator. "During the game, you must determine who is real." After a player have deduced a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. However, because every entity can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake. "Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," the narration suggests. "The last one standing might be a fraud. Either way, your decisions are irreversible." UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
